My story with music

Music has always been my life's companion. The first songs I remember listening to, on an old MP3 of my father's, were Cup of Wonder by Jethro Tull, not ironically followed by Crazy Horse by Black Label Society. Some time later I was given American Idiot by Green Day and Fear of The Dark by Iron Maiden.

These two albums changed my life, making me feel the strength that music can have on human beings. When I reached middle school, I realized that what I thought was a personal vision of music was actually nearly universal. This made me fall even more in love with music and pushed me to understand its impact on the world and society throughout history.

For example, did you know that the September 11, 2001 attack, My Chemical Romance, the release of Twilight and 50 Shades of Gray, and even the deterioration of Ellen DeGeneres' public image are all somehow connected?!

During lockdown in my second year of high school, after watching School of Rock for perhaps the fifth time, I decided to start a huge project based on the genre map drawn on the classroom blackboard in the film. I wrote out the entire evolution of almost all musical genres, from the earliest blues to the most experimental genres of today.

For now this scheme exists only on paper—about twenty pages of a notebook—but I'm working on making it digital and publishing it somewhere.

For years I've continued nurturing this passion, discovering new artists without prejudice toward genre or popularity. I've also been to many concerts, from wildly different artists, where I lived unique experiences and met spectacular people who opened my mind.
